Acordar

Acordar means to wake up and is not reflexive in everyday European Portuguese, so you say acordo cedo rather than acordo-me cedo. It can also be transitive, meaning to wake someone else, as in acordei o meu irmão. The stress falls on the second syllable, a-COR-dar.
