Nicht
Nicht negates verbs, adjectives, adverbs and whole sentences. It usually comes after the conjugated verb and its objects, near the end of the clause. Use nicht when there is no indefinite noun to negate; for nouns you normally need kein instead.

Ich verstehe das nicht.
I do not understand that.
Heute arbeite ich nicht.
I am not working today.
